In July 2012, Paul Scott, an accomplished Electrical Engineer and PhD Physicist, and David Hicks, an experienced Operations & Engineering executive, joined forces to found U2D Incorporated. U2D's fundamental approach is to use the latest engineering techniques combined with breakthrough research to create products and technologies that revolutionize neutron radiation detection capabilities. U2D continues that plan on a larger scale as it develops a line of products and services to market to a wide variety of customer bases.

Our team spans a broad range of scientific and engineering specialties that include: Solid State Neutron Detection, Real Time Digital Signal Processing, Analog to Digital Conversion, Systems Integration, Power Supply Design, High Voltage Pulsed Power Electronics, and various Software/Firmware Development.

U2D develops technology that is capable of identifying, differentiating, and locating neutron sources.  This technology fulfills industry requirements for improving instruments over the thermal to 15 MeV energy spectrum. We have partnered with universities to aid in this development and we have built relationships with key players in the defense and radiation safety industries. With a strong, diverse team and these key relationships, our company is breaking through the barriers of the ‘old way’ of doing things and emerging as the leader in neutron detection.

Core Technology

Our systems are neutron radiation spectrometers that utilize arrays of high efficiency, state of the art, solid-state neutron detection devices. Advanced mathematical analysis of these arrays allows for the detection of the unique energy spectra that are inherent to different neutron sources. This allows for a multitude of uses such as:

  • Locating and identifying neutron sources.
    • Homeland defense
    • Non-proliferation
  • Accurately determining the neutron radiation dose equivalent.
    • Radiation personnel management
    • Nuclear reactor site safety analysis
    • Nuclear event safety

Paul Scott, Ph.D.
CTO

Paul applies his technical expertise in electrical engineering and physics to develop radiological detection systems. Paul received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineer from the University of Missouri - Rolla and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Before founding U2D, he accumulated over 15 years of experience in electronics design for the defense industry. His experience is in the development of hardware, firmware, and software for real-time digital signal processing and high-precision analog to digital conversion. In particular, Paul develops hardware and firmware to support the mathematics found within U2D’s products that is used in the real-time spectroscopic analysis of neutron radiation.
