We were founded with the idea of using the latest engineering techniques combined with breakthrough research to create products and technologies that enhance radiation detection and safety.

Our team spans a broad range of scientific and engineering specialties that include:

  • Solid-State Neutron Detection
  • Neutron Spectroscopy
  • Neutron Dosimetry
  • Real Time Digital Signal Processing
  • Analog to Digital Conversion
  • Power Supply Design
  • High Voltage Electronics
  • Software and Firmware Development

Paul Scott, Ph.D.
CTO

Paul applies his technical expertise in electrical engineering and physics to develop radiological detection systems. Paul received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineer from the University of Missouri - Rolla and his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Before founding U2D, he accumulated over 15 years of experience in electronics design for the defense industry. His experience is in the development of hardware, firmware, and software for real-time digital signal processing and high-precision analog to digital conversion. In particular, Paul develops hardware and firmware to support the mathematics found within U2D’s products that is used in the real-time spectroscopic analysis of neutron radiation.

James Currie
VP Research & Development

A life long technophile and Physics PhD candidate, James has brought a unique set of skills to U2D since joining the team in 2013. James has software development experience ranging from embedded systems to massively parallel supercomputing applications, and his handy work is prevalent in nearly all U2D products. James' current research interests include, theoretical condensed matter physics, neutron detection, parallel algorithm design, and information-theoretic analysis.

U2D Incorporated is located in Liberty Missouri, part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.  Kansas City has quickly become a hub for entrepreneurs, noted by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the 9 cities you wouldn’t think of for tech start-ups.    Utilizing local organizations such as UMKC’s Innovation Center, the Kauffman Foundation, PIPELINE, KCSource Link, KCnext, Think Big, and Launch KC, along with leveraging current relationships, we anticipate strong support and growth over the coming years in the Silicon Prairie.
